Analysis: The meaning of There’s Something About Mary is that it’s rare to find people in the world who are both trusting and can be trusted, and that is why there is something about Mary
Examples that support my There’s Something About Mary analysis:
No one trusts Ted
– No one believes that he is going to the prom with Mary
– No one believes him on the day of the prom
– The detective doesn’t believe that he’s not a stalker
– The cops don’t believe that he’s not a killer
The other characters can’t be trusted, even though Mary trusts them
– The detective who ends up stalking Mary
– The pizza boy who pretends to be an architect
– Woogie
– Even Brett Farve uses the cliché line, “You know you’ll always be the only one for me,” which is suspect because he’s Brett Farve and the line implies that he has many other options and can’t really be trusted
– That is why she picks Ted in the end: because her brother trusts him (her brother allows Ted to touch the earmuffs in the end)
